Feldman seems to really want to seem wise and street smart but comes across as over-eager and a bit dumb.

Also the song he wrote that they play at around 1 hour 14 minutes in is seriously bad. Like novelty horrible. It is something Korn wouldn’t have put on a B side album.

This is a prime example of the celebrity narcissism that is perpetuated by the media and voyeuristic reality series. This is all that Dr. Drew talks about in his book The Mirror Effect.

Obviously, Corey had a very troubled life that the media and society feel compelled to exploit and aggrandize. He obviously tries very hard to be genuine, sincere, and warm-hearted, but the dynamic that he was raised in with his family and society at large severely warps our perception of who he is.

I think he is a good person, and people are too quick to be judgmental about him and his work. He clearly has an appreciation for the creative arts, and tons of experience and insight into show business.

There is some good stuff in this episode.

Feldman gives off an extremely self involved/trying too hard vibe, but it’s so over the top that it’s entertaining at times.

At one point he refers to Anderson’s Jurassic 5 bumper as “Casio music.” Adam soon segues into Feldman’s own song which is indeed “novelty horrible.” It’s like some bizarro world attempt at ripping off Nine Inch Nails and deals with Feldman’s perceived persecution by the media.

But Drew and Corey’s discussion of the Surreal Life television show is probably my favorite part. Drew even jokes that he would like to be on a show like that, which sort of foreshadows his “Celebrity Rehab” program.

Feldman wasn’t too bad or at least better than I expected given the comments. Not the most insightful guy but he participates and gets along with Adam and Drew decently (if not Anderson). He’s a bit loathe to examine his flaws and he does some bullshitting about his reasons for wanting to be on the Surreal Life. And his music is remarkable bad as every other commenter has noted.

On the whole. though, I gotta say–not a bad guest.

since this show cory told the press hollywood is full of child molesters. he was passed around amounst them and thats why he got so many roles. he may have even grown into a molester himself, loveline has taught us thats how theyre created…

I feel sorry for this guest. He’s not a guest that annoyed me or was just arrogant or awful- but he has a needy stuck in the good old days vibe that is pretty heart breaking. The song was horrible. Overall just kind of a sad episode with a kinda dumb abused child actor and without any of the trainwreck laughs you sometimes get from the “nutty” guests.
