Show Summary:

CLL #457 (feat. The Murmurs)
06/30/1997 – Monday Night Show
Source – XJosh VHS Archive (2024) with Mrobot Tape (2017) Patches

This episode is 99% complete with a major audio upgrade, We previously acquired about 30% of the episode and now we have the full show minus the closing goodbye segment.

This is a longer version of a show that was originally an 11-minute long file. Now we have half the show.

Adam says he has listened to the band's CD and likes that kind of music, refers to it as "folky/chicky music"

Adam compares the band to an old SNL skit where they do a rip-off of an NPR-style show.

The song "I'm a Mess" is played.

Caller Dani, is 14 and asks about breast reduction age limitations. She is pretty impatient when Adam and Drew take a beat to think about it. Apparently the drummer of the band is quite busty also.

Adam criticized the "Dr. Drew School of radio" skills used that none of the listeners will ever see.

The band is asked if they believe Adam and Drew make the same amount. Adam's plan backfires when they say Drew should be getting paid more since he has the degree.

The seldom-heard "Adam Carolla Shuffle" is played. A fan named Chris Nelson created it. I wish it wasn't such a generic name, maybe we could track down some more shows that way. He sent the shuffle on a CD. Who knows, maybe he has an entire archive on CD"¦

Drew tells a caller that pubic hair was meant for primal man to be able to distinguish people via smell. You learn something every day"¦

A toxins discussion is started when deodorant causing cancer is mentioned. Adam makes fun of people for taking fish oil and the people weary of aluminum cans and TV dinner trays. The band says rubbing a crystal under your armpits is a better alternative.

A very sad call from 13 year-old Bridgette involves her having to move back in with her father who raped her until the age of 7. When she told her mother what happened to her she tells her that she "probably deserved it." This disgusts everyone in the studio. They even call it criminal. Drew says the father will probably come at her again and that she should call social services. When he gives her a couple 1-800 numbers she is actually able to read them back! A caller actually wrote down the numbers and probably called them the next day. Adam and Drew both admit she is off the scale intelligent compared to the average Loveline listener.

Adam suggests messed up women with a bunch of kids asking for money from the government should have to be required to get a Norplant shot to prevent more kids from coming.

The figure the show got back on track this segment, mostly due to Bridgette's depressing call.

Adam tries to ask Drew a pop-music related question, he fails to answer it, and the recording cuts off before the 10 second time-out.

Adam compares the girls to the SNL skit “Coffee Talk” which is accurate. That skit is hilarious – most notably the “Shweaty Balls” Alex Baldwin one. One of the band mates is apparently in a relationship with KD Lang. Woof. The Adam Shuffle is actually good – don’t recall it ever being played again. The girls agree that they should go home after listening to it. Wish it was a full epi.

Super solid show and guests were great, did not overtake the show and were enjoyable. The old partial was always a sleeper ep for me., A+ listen, also. 51:23 – “Riki Rachtman Flashbacks” – Were they on the show circa 1994??? They “Go down gambling” after this. Thanks for unearthing this Gio!
