I learned so much from this video, it’s like a behind the scenes history lesson from Anderson and Bald Bryan, a must watch for any Loveline/KROQ fan.
This post has received 1 vote up.We are going back quite aways but I believe engineer Mike Dooley was the first to share an official tape (1998-01-18). Years later when I was in college circa fall of 2008 I found Dr. Marcel’s website and was able to contact him (great guy, actually called him on the phone to wish him a happy new year) and he sent me a box of tapes which I sent to Giovanni to digitize going back to 1992. These were board captured cassettes right from the KROQ studio. Maybe a year or two later Dr. Bruce sent some tapes to Gio (one of which he spent hours cleaning and splicing as Dr. Spaz spilled his coffee with 26 sugar packets on the tape). Dave Lerman (RIP) was a dear friend of mine and shared a couple of tapes but those seem to be home recordings. He had more but never got a chance to send them to me before he passed away.
After that there were several people involved with the show that shared official recordings. Adam (not me) even shared a DAT he recorded the night before he went on as Mr. Birchum. The majority of the official tapes are audio on VHS but some even have security camera footage including the 1999 Pennywise show, lit fart night and some others which Gio has shared on youtube. I’ve reached out to everyone and their brother that was affiliated with the show to see if they have old tapes but not much has come from that as of yet. Hope that helps!
