Just over a week ago episode #192 from June 24th, 1996 was added. Jim Carolla sits in for nearly the whole show.

Now maybe the rest of you knew about this, but I’m gobsmacked. For years, Adam joked about his dad once expressing interested in coming down to the studio. “How about Friday at 7:30?”, he asks. Obviously he has no idea when his own son is on the air. Adam even takes the same joking dig at his dad on this episode, but now we see something totally new. This funny confusion obviously happened in the very early part of Adam’s tenure. And, there are other nuggets as well (these are from memory, so the quotes may not be perfect):

    1) Instead of saying Jim doesn’t listen to the show at all, Adam says that his dad tends to tune in for a few minutes before getting annoyed.

    2) Adam refers to his dad and Dr. Bruce as “two great dads.”

    3) Adams does lay into his dad, saying, “Hey, why’d you never take me to the beach?” But, Jim counters, saying, “Of course I did; here’s a story. . . ”

    4) And this is the nuttiest by far. Jim claims that he essentially did the Mr. Brichim character ON THE RADIO forty years before Adam did it. This is never explained, and we never learn what radio show Jim Carolla was on, but WOW! This is an absolutely crazy notion.

    5) It’s also interesting that Drew isn’t there to meet the elder Carolla.

Anyway, I found the show fascinating and look forward to other people’s reactions. (Or maybe I’m the only one who’d not heard this.)

Thanks to everyone involved in making this episode available!
