Bad LL guest. Janeane espouses the “can’t judge/everyone’s an individual” philosophy and keeps saying “that wasn’t me, that was a sound effect” whenever Engineer Mike plays a drop.

The idea of childhood trauma causing people’s “individuality” doesn’t fit with her agenda but she’s not a terrible guest. She seems genuinely concerned with the callers problems which is bad for Adam.

@yayer, that’s not totally true, some of their fav guests (Bill Maher, Alec Baldwin, etc) diagree with alot of their opinions and make for great discussion. The problem is w people like Garofalo who argue the clinical truths that Drew & Adam know so well. I’m a doctor myself, and I’ll tell you 99% of what Drew says is from documented evidence based medicine and clinical study, not opinion. So when some comedian who had a couple of stamps punched on the personality disorder club card herself comes in and argues what is just plain fact, I think those of us who know what really works from listening to these guys for all these years find it hard to go along with someone who is blatantly wrong and a bit disrespectful, pushing their own agenda. To me, what she does is like going onto Top Gear and telling the guys that have road tested every car on the market for the last 30 years that the Honda Civic is the pinnacle of modern engineering or telling Paula Dean what real Southern home cooking is, etc.

The guest is pretty intolerable because her ideology needs to seep through every single interaction on the show.

In the beginning, it seems as though the show could go either way, but Janeane gets increasingly confrontational as her ideas are confronted with reality more and more. She objects to betting on a caller and goes off about how it’s impossible to judge for several minutes. Dr. Drew then correctly guesses prior abuse and she completely disregards it.

Throughout the show, she tells the two how they aren’t helping and offers the same general and worthless advice instead “read more.” The best example of this is when a kid calls up and asks why his girlfriend has been ignoring him. Adam listens and suggests it’s probably over and he needs to move on. Janeane gets upset at Adam for being overly negative, so she gives the kid some fluffy hope about a misunderstanding and tells him to read more. I think this is a pretty good case study of why I value loveline. It’s a lot easier to tell someone that everything is fine instead of the honest, objective discussion that is necessary for any real growth.

The really frustrating thing is she continually accuses Adam (ok, fair enough) and Dr. Drew for not helping. This is B.S. useless ideology vs. a clinical physician who volunteered his time nightly for several years on the show.

    Best moment: 89:50

Janeane feigns humility after lapping up the praise of several callers “We’ve heard from four people, I’m sure there are millions of listeners out there who despise me….

Drew: (quietly in the background) mm-hmm.

    Classic Drew.

You know I’m usually more lenient with guests but man she SUCKS! Lol. She tries to hard, thinks she knows it all, and makes a living as a comedienne but absolutely massacres jokes. I’m commenting midway through the show which i never do. I actually may not be able to listen to the whole thing which is rare for me as well.

I gave this a 2nd listen, and honestly I don’t think Janeane comes off as bad the 2nd time. The worst parts really stick out on 1st listen, but the really obnoxious parts are pretty few and far between and she seems to genuinely find Adam funny despite her own issues with certain things, and I think a lot of her seemingly bitchy comments are just a poor attempt at humor or to lighten the mood. I’m also guessing she had some stuff go on in her past with how she protests a little toooo much to the gambling and concept of human behavior predictability based on early development, if you guys know what I’m saying haha.

I also think that since most of us are die-hard Loveline fans and are able to hear Dr. Drew and Adam do their Amazing Kreskin impersonation night after night, we forget the skepticism that comes before hearing that happen with your own ears. Then again, as I’m typing this I remember her mentioning being 34 at the time of the taping, so maybe I’m giving her a little too much leeway, being only 30 myself lol.

  7. Unwantedkids

Janeane is pretty annoying but not as bad as some people say. She’s a dumbass and doesn’t really get human nature. She thinks she does. I really hope female comedians have become a bit funnier and a bit less bitter by now. She has this politically correct language police shit going on which no man would find appealing.

  8. jbarrett9

I nominate Janeane Garofalo as the worst guest in the history of Loveline. She is the most bitter, obnoxious, annoying, unfunny personality they’ve ever had on the show. And God forbid anyone do or say anything funny or she bites their head off. Isn’t she a comedian for God’s sake- yet she seems to be opposed to comedy. Total byatch.

  9. matty

I actually had to go back and lower my rating from two to one stars before the episode ended. Janeane is SO OBNOXIOUS. she even makes a point of objecting to the drops Mike plays. This episode is worth listening to as an endurance test.
