More talk of Adam leaving the show. He’s angry too. I know part of him leaving was all the other gigs he landed, but I’ve also heard that part of it was a pay dispute having to do with Drew.
Drew is always flying around the country doing speaking engagements while Adam is back home holding down the fort. I’ve heard that Adam thought he was entitled to either more money than Drew makes or just a raise in general, and didn’t get it. Whether all that is true or not, I have no idea. It is pretty clear that Adam has some anger going on though and much of it comes out when he’s talking about Drew traveling around making money while he should be back there doing the show.
And anyone who’s listened to this show for long enough knows that Adam’s strategy for getting what he wants is by threatening to quit. So maybe at this point it was just a bluff, but when they wouldn’t pay him, he had to walk since he had a better offer on the table.
Too bad.
Adam’s coffee table book ideas. Seems like he only brings this up when there’s a guest doctor in.
Either way, they are 1980’s Florida Black Prom and 1970’s Bar Mitzvahs.
Dr. Bruce sounds drunk tonight.
@Landlubber Adam always complained on the show that he and Drew got paid the same. But Drew’s the one with the medical knowledge, and Adam’s just the comic foil, so I don’t see how Adam should be entitled to more money.
Blueskylark, I don’t even know if it’s true that Adam was upset about the money, it’s just what I’ve heard.
As for Drew having the medical knowledge and Adam only being the comic foil, you’re right. But you’re wrong in saying that wouldn’t entitle Adam to more money.
They can drag any doctor in there (see Bruce, Dr.) but Adam made this show what it is. Loveline was never and will never be more popular than it was when Adam was the host. I enjoy the show whether it’s Dr. Drew, Bruce, other Bruce, Ben, or whoever. But listening to Loveline episodes with no Adam is a waste of time.
The show is still on, but it’s never recaptured the old awesomeness.
From what Adam said years later:
They were told that they had to lower the budget of the show, and they wanted it all to come out of Adam’s salary. So Drew would still be making the same, and Adam would be making about half as much. He of course told them to shove it. The weird part is that if they had just lowered them both the same amount, they would have likely kept them both.
I guess they probably wanted to get rid of Adam, which worked out great for the show for sure.
I love these episodes w/ engineeress Michelle, the resident lesbian
