This is where Adam yells at Anderson and tells him to shut up and do the buttons.
Adam & Anderson have the best rapport and back-and-forth I’ve ever heard between them. …That is until ~1:20:00; Adam’s wife had called in and hung up after being stuck on hold; when questioned about it Anderson flips a little ‘ttude in explaining he doesn’t answer the phones and thus wouldn’t know, resulting in the immortal “SHUT UP, shut up, just shut up, Anderson, and do the buttons, would ya please!?” drop. Bald Bryan makes a very rare and very brief LL appearance on the mic. The energy is decidedly awkward the rest of the night.
Adam opens the show talking about the gubernatorial debates in California the night before. He says the Green Party candidate was the most pissed off one on stage, and that he’s always surprised that the most pissed person in any debate is the Green Party candidate. He says you would think somebody who chained himself to a tree and loves wildlife and loves everyone would be a little more mellow. Then Drew chimes in and says the pathology behind that is that somebody beat the crap out of them at some point and now they’re gonna find people to do that to them in real life. Wow. haha. I can never really tell if Drew is joking because he’s really deadpan, but I’m pretty sure he’s serious. He thinks that these Green Party people know they’re gonna get their asses kicked in these elections and that’s why they’re drawn to politics, and specifically, a party that will never get anyone elected. lol.
Adam brings up a conversation he had off the air the previous night. He asked engineer Chris what he wanted to do with his life and his career in radio. Chris said he wants to get behind the mic at some point. Adam asks him and Junior Producer Lauren what they’ve learned from their time working with him. They say there’s no preparation needed whatsoever, you can talk about whatever you want for however you want, you can leave immediately, you get to boss people around, you make big bucks, it’s who you know and who you’re connected to, and it’s about random luck, and you don’t need an education or any training.
So Adam starts this off jokingly but it’s clear as he continuously mocks them for all of this that he was at least minorly offended by these comments and disagrees with them. Except Adam has always made it a point to highlight his unconventional and apathetic approach to his job, not to mention the twist of fate that got him on the radio in the first place. He takes pride in the fact that he shows up to the show two minutes before the mics heat up and leaves two minutes after they shut down. He takes pride in the fact that he’s literally a millionaire even though he’s a junior college drop out. He “lucked” into a radio gig by hearing a broadcast asking for boxing trainers for a bit the morning show was doing, then lucked into being chosen, then lucked into being paired with Jimmy when he very easily could’ve been paired up with Michael the Maintenance Man which would’ve lead to nothing, then lucked into Jimmy convincing him to go on the radio instead of just “driving the van” which is what Adam asked to do. All of these twists of fate combined to get him where he is today, which he himself acknowledges numerous times throughout his career, even to this day. So no education, luck, it’s who you know, you can show up late, you can leave early, you don’t need to prepare, you make big bucks, you can talk about whatever you want, and sometimes it’s just dumb luck. Yep, put a check mark next to all of those things.
Drew plugging his book Cracked: “Buy it pleas….I mean READ it, read it.” lol.
A kid calls in who taught himself to play the Taboo 2 theme on acoustic guitar. The guys have him play the whole thing and it’s pretty good. Too bad Adam sings over the whole thing and you can barely hear it.
Girl calls in who says she’s always doing things for her “boyfriend” who is really just a guy who lets her come over and give him hand jobs. No really. She keeps just saying “I always go over to his house and do things for him and he doesn’t do anything for me.” The guys asks what kinds of things and she replies “like go over to his house and jack him off.”
Drew: “What kind of things do you want him to do for you?”
Adam: “Like go over to HER house and let her jerk him off.”
After that they take a call from a kid and right when he gets on the line he flushes the toilet. Adam says he really needs to work on inventing the timer on the toilet so it flushes after you walk away. He says that at least five times a year he talks on the phone with friends while taking a mammoth dump.
Adam: “Big ole pyramid dump. Big ole monolith of dook in the toilet. Then I walk away and don’t flush because I don’t want the person to hear what I just did. It’s embarrassing. I walk away and I forget. Dook actually comes up above the water line. I crap like a farm animal. It’s not like there’s just one or two logs, it’s a pile. It’s flop, you know what I’m saying Drew? It’s like an iceberg. 90% of it is below the water and just the peak sticks out. It’s not so much an extruded log as it is a massive pile. So it just sits there and I forget. The maid must think I’m some kind of animal cuz the maid’s gotta be like ‘why is this jackass so lazy he can’t just turn around…he thinks his shit doesn’t stink?'”
A big ol’ pyramid dump!
Anderson plays a well-timed and rarely heard Adam drop (“Nobody wants to hear it!”) while Adam is singing “Gotta Get It On” from Taboo 2.
Drew gets impressively unprofessional around 40 minutes.
0:48:17 Adam drop: “Drew masturbated to Thomas the Tank Engine once”
Adam basically starts the show by doing a 5-minute-roundabout speech about how junior producer Lauren was a huge cunt.
My last comment was a bit hasty – Adam and Drew basically make fun of her the entire show. And she deserves it. She sounds like a really petty, small-minded person.
Good episode. Callers sings and plays taboo 2. “Shut up and do the buttons.” Classic drop origin.
Okay so half way through the show I’m 90% sure that drew and Adam get drunk. Perhaps only Adam gets drunk, but as in the words of Dr drew, I’m sure that there is some kind of stimulant at play. Regardless, Adam and drew both are very energetic in the second half. The one indicator that they are drinking is the fact that Lauren has been drinking so she is approving of everything Adam says. Lmfao “push the buttons” Adam says at the end of the show.
Landlubber has a good summary. The first half or two-thirds of the show was just painful to listen to; Adam comes across as petty and bitter and Drew is egging him on. You don’t like Lauren, fine, we get it.
