07/09/2002 – Tuesday Night Show

This episode is 100% complete with a huge audio upgrade, Jerry joins the guys after the first break. Adam later revealed that Jerry was concerned with questions regarding the death of Layne Staley and was uncertain if he was going to stay and appear on the show with the risk that a caller might bring up the topic even if they did try to avoid it. Once Jerry joins the show it proves to be a solid episode, Jerry participates with the callers and laughs at all of Adam's comedy.
Old Notes: From the band Alice in Chains
Jerry Cantrell arrives around the 24:00 minute mark. He talks about his father’s cattle ranch, the history of Alice in Chains, and his new album.
Around 15:40, 16 year old Sara calls in. She is losing her pubic hair and finds it in clumps in her underwear. When Drew asks if she is on any medications, he mentions that she had been on anabolic steroids that she stole from her friend’s brother. When asked why, she says that she wanted to be taller. Drew and Adam seem really freaked out by this but Sara doesn’t think the hairloss is related to the steroid use as she had stopped them a while ago and hadn’t lost any hair while on them.
Jerry is one of those guests whom Adam would bad-mouth later on, but listening to this show it’s hard to tell why. Jerry sounds nice enough, cracks a couple of jokes and seems to enjoy being there. A decent episode overall but not memorable.
Great ep if you’re having trouble sleeping
I’d love to hear the whole story about this show. Adam and Drew, in typical revisionist fashion, would later describe Jerry as an all-around pain in the ass, but the whole time he’s on the air he’s upbeat, interested in the calls and frequently laughing at Adam’s one-liners. Everything seems fine.
Then at the very end they come back from the final break to wrap things up and Jerry’s not there. Adam says, cryptically, that he wants to “sort of thank” Jerry Cantrell. So something must have happened during that last commercial break, although nothing we heard would suggest why.
Cantrell story explained in 7/6/2005 episode, starting at 40:30
Just listened to Adam’s version of the Cantrell story on the 7/6/2005 show. He is included in their pantheon of shitty guests and they explain why. It starts around 0:47:40. Good stuff.
on the show 07/25/02 Adam addresses why Jerry was a pain in the ass.
He states that Jerry off air mentioned he didnt want to take any questions regarding Layne’s death (touchey subject i guess). Adam went on to tell him thats fine but we cant control what our callers will say so it may pop up but thats life……Jerry then said well maybe i shouldnt do the show etc…..Adam and drew must have got him to agree to stay but rubbed Adam the wrong way lol…no suprises there
just listened to the 7/25/02 show
Adam addresses why he thought Jerry was a douche. Jerry apparently off air stated that he didnt want to field questions regarding Layne’s death. Adam went on to tell him that was fine, although he cant control what callers may ask him.
Jerry then apparently went on to ummmm and ahhhh about whether he should leave and not do the show, but decided to stay.
Not that exciting but hey enough to rub Ace the wrong way lol
File replaced, board captured cassette. Brand new export!
Layne had just died a few months earlier. I’m not at all surprised that this would be a touchy subject for him. The guy loses his best friend and business partner, and now he’s gotta cope with that, AND figure out how he’s going to continue his career, plus he was an addict himself… It was probably a ton of stress for him. Adam has zero capacity for empathy, so of course he thinks this is Jerry just being a pain in the ass…
Will have to see what Adam says about him.. he seemed like a super responsive, thoughtful guest
Was the call from Elizabeth about getting warts and Herpes and losing blood and needing blood transfusion the bogus caller Miriam?
Approx timestamp?
I found it; I don’t think it is her. But this show has a lot of interesting callers!
