Very annoying guests. Adam is flustered. He complained about them years after as an example of least favorite guests.
Adam/Drew complain about Gorillaz for YEARS to come. The first time I heard this – I kind of found them funny (Murdoc is a phoner an does not stop talking – EVER.) I had to come back and listen again bc they complain about them nearly every episode in the 2005 stream I have been listening to due to a Gorillaz bumper. Gorillaz are annoying and distracting but Adam has some fun with Murdoc’s voice impressions. They really must have sucked because Adam/Drew have serious PTSD.
I never got the complaints on this…they must have been aholes off-mic. They seemed funny on mic.
I’m thinking they may have been a bit bias towards the band due to Damon possibly being on the infamous lost show with Blur that caused Adam and Drew to hate them. Also, them being late probably didn’t help either…
The guy with the deep voice is so annoying. No wonder Carolla complained for years about them.
I always found it interesting that Drew (occasionally Adam) complained about the Gorillaz and even on this site, above users have stated how they find that “the guy with the deep voice [murdoch] is so annoying.” I re-listened to it last night after many years and found it to be hysterical. Murdoch’s antics are priceless and in my opinion, this is one of the best Loveline’s out there. Underrated and definitely under-appreciated.
I’ve been listening to June 2005 and they bring up how terrible the Gorillaz were as guests like every other episode so I had to come check it out. I couldn’t even get through this. I had to stop after they played Clint Eastwood.
the band members are the ones mainly laugh at murdoch’s jokes and antics.
THIS IS A GREAT SHOW – However, its not a typical loveline show anymore than the Gorillaz are a typical band. You must remember, Murdoc is a cartoon! Dont expect the regular Adam & Drew format; Murdoch steals the show. I found him as funny as he was obnoxious, just like cartoon characters should be. I loved it.
I always thought this show was hilarious, but it’s easy to see why they hated them as guests. They essentially steamroll over the format of the show worse than Adam ever did.
I usually love the Gorillaz, and Damon’s other work, but this wasn’t that great… just doesn’t fit the loveline format much.
Love the Gorillazzz
one of my favorite shows
I don’t understand why love line fans don’t get this one, it’s so funny, this episode is less popular than ICP by far and they’re far more rude and obnoxious, and they’re terrific guests too!
I’ve always wanted to hear this one.
Redneck caller from previous night calls in at 15:15, LOL, the banjo music gets me everytime LOL
If you are into British humor, this is a good episode for you
Gorillaz’ “Murdoch” is GREAT, especially w/ the AMAZING multi-sequential impressions of James Stewart –> Jack Nicholson –> Mick Jagger –> Michael Caine –> Bobby Deniro –> Joe Pesci
Just saw movie-teaser for 9/2013 movie “The Family” starring Bob Deniro featuring Gorillaz “Clint Eastwood” in commercial.
BMacC, Welcome to the site. I hope you’re enjoying Classic Loveline as much as we do. I’m glad you’re adding comments to the shows, but was wondering if you wouldn’t mind limiting yourself to one comment per show. I mean, if you get into a conversation with someone, that’s fine, but I’m just trying to avoid back to back comments by the same user for the same show. Thanks, Chris
LordOfTheView: Yep, will do my best.
This is one of the worst episodes I’ve listened to. Atrocious guests…
I get what they were trying to do. The problem was Murdoch wasn’t that funny. He had one joke in the beginning and the rest of the show he just rambled in a drunken accent. Adam was just pissed because he had to play along an entire show with a guy who really didn’t have any comedic chops.
Opinions are really divided on this one. I think it’s a great, albeit bizarre episode. Murdoc was hilarious and they should have had him on again for the sake of good radio.
Wow, this episode really seems to divide people. Put me in the “I enjoyed it” camp. I thought Murdoch was great and Adam seemed to be enjoying it at the time.
Can someone link a show where Adam complains about these guys? He seems to like them on air. They do a 30 minute bit together, for gods sake. It doesn’t seem like he would do that unless he liked them. So I’d have to hear his complaints, but it seems kind of phony to complain about them when he showed no sign of it on the air.
Adam really seemed like he enjoyed the bit. He even came up with a list of impressions for Murdoc.
Murdoc was funny for the first 20 minutes. After that it just sucks and goes on and on and on and on…
Super annoying guests. They thing they are hilarious which makes it worse
I understand why Adam and Drew didn’t like Murdoch (who is played by a British comedian and impressionist, Phil Cornwell: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Cornwell). They’ve stated multiple times they don’t like guests that just come on and do a bit the whole show.
I’m 50/50 on this show. It was hilarious at some points but also annoying as hell in others, I still enjoyed it.
I don’t see where the hate comes from. The guy’s impressions were actually really good. I was dying this show.
Agreed!
