The tapeworm discussion was fun
The Pan Pan saga continues and takes a dramatic and angry turn tonight. Pan Pan was at the show the previous night with Jimmy Kimmel as the guest. He was there because he wanted to close the deal with Adam but started giving Jimmy the hard-sell as well.
Adam felt bad and didn’t want it to be a waste of Pan Pan’s time so he purchased two cleavers–one for himself and one for Jimmy–but Pan Pan was not satisfied with this. He had built it up in his mind that Adam was gonna drop like $1,200 on friggin knives even though he has two sets of expensive German knives at home. Pan Pan started pouting. He was curt and short, shoved the receipt at Adam and never said thanks. On the way home, Jimmy and Adam were driving together and Jimmy said “fuck that guy. You spent $270 and he’s throwing the receipt at you, pissed that he had to come down to the radio station, calling you on your cell phone, fuck him.” So they cancelled the order completely.
Adam: “Pan Pan, if you’re listening, you had a sale but your attitude screwed you in the end. Let that be a lesson to everybody.”
Pan Pan calls in around 15 minutes in and Adam lets him stew on hold for a bit. When they let him on the line it gets a little dicey (heh, cuz knives). Pan Pan says that someone claiming to be Adam Carolla called him that day and cancelled the order. Adam said it was his assistant, Gavin.
Pan Pan: “You could’ve at least called yourself, dude.”
Adam: “You’ve wasted enough of my time Pan Pan. And I was gonna buy those overpriced cleavers and had no problem with it but your attitude was so piss poor at the end of the night that….
Pan Pan: “What was my attitude?”
Adam: “You never said thanks, you were upset that I didn’t buy more…
Pan Pan: “I wasn’t being upset that you didn’t buy more.”
Adam: “Tell me this, did you ever say thanks?”
Pan Pan: “I don’t remember.”
Adam: “You were disappointed that you didn’t sell more and you were acting very unprofessionally.”
Pan Pan goes on to explain the reason he was upset wasn’t because they didn’t buy more, but because they made a racial thing about it the night before on the show. Jimmy and Adam discussed how if it’s a black person selling something they feel sorry for them and buy more because of white guilt.
Adam: “I feel like, as a country, we’ve done worse things to the blacks than we have the Chinese, so I’d buy more from the black guy. You’d beat out a white guy, don’t get me wrong…..no hard feelings, but you were a prick at the end of the night.”
Great episode. Good calls, Adams got gas and a great lesson about tapeworms.
