Surprised there are no comments on this show yet. This is definitely an above average show. Drew corners Bob at 27min about the AIDS/HIV issue and they have a very interesting, provocative discussion about it. Unfortunately they decide to carry the debate into the commercial break so we don’t get to hear the end of it.

Also, Bob talks about breaking new ground with using barcodes in printed media so people could view online media relative to the printed article. He’s essentially describing, QR Codes, although in 2001 there weren’t any smartphones and I didn’t know anyone that had a barcode scanner connected to their computers back then so I don’t know what technology they were expecting people to use to take advantage of the barcodes. Great idea, as we now know, but unfortunately, about 10 years ahead of it’s time.

@HarrySeaward But in the context of a magazine, the barcode idea doesn’t work. Why would anyone bother to scan a magazine page and listen to music while reading the magazine when it would be a lot easier just to do it all in one place online? I could see why this idea would make sense back when magazines were just starting to go online, but not in 2001. No wonder it didn’t catch on.

The barcode in the context of a magazine DOES work. The QR code can be read by using an app on your phone to read it, and you see them everywhere. It uses the camera in your phone, and you can read one the size of a dime, or the size of a building. It can direct you to anywhere on the web on your phone in the blink of an eye. I have seen them everywhere from on a coaster in restaurants to magazines to the side of a bus.

Magazines can be had online, but using them on a phone ends up to be a metric ton of zooming and resizing and positioning so you can actually read them and see the images. Most people would prefer a paper issue.

Adam announces he’s into his 37th hour w/o masturbating because it’s the day before The Man Show’s Spank-Off between himself and Jimmy.

Bob and Drew square-off on the HIV not causing AIDS issue that Spin Magazine proliferated over 10 years and 120 articles… gotta say, as wrong as he may be, Bob is pretty convincing and has some points.

Bob is a really smart, insightful caring guy, incredible guest.

What a fuckin asshole this guy is. You’re a fool if you think you had any good points. He’s playing games with words to win the argument. As Drew pointed out, he doesn’t have even a basic understanding of how science works. Just because something isn’t “conclusively proven” that means to him that it’s equally likely that the opposite is true, It doesn’t work like that. He’s the kind of guy who might have become a lawyer because he likes playing with words and winning on technicalities.

God DAMN Bob is an insufferable, smug contrarian. The whole HIV/AIDS convo is agonizing to listen to, and there are shades of the infamous Jon Favreau “you don’t need all those meds” BS when a suicidal caller in very rough shape calls in around the 50 minute mark.

Has question about vaporizing pot - Adam and Drew are ignorant on this method and completely dismiss her as a dumb stoner, made me cringe.
