Dr Spaz is in for Drew who is in Seattle chasing a nickel.
I find the overtures of the girls annoying, They are trying too hard to be funny. Maybe I am suspect of all females attempting to be humorous.
I thought they were just fun-loving chicks, not particularly funny but present, complementing to Adam’s musings. There might have been a couple “huh?” moments where they reached too hard for a joke or two. But I thought they definitely added a little energy to the room.
On the other hand, Bruce seemed to REALLY have an ass-full of Adam throughout this episode, more than usual. Three times in particular his resentment really came out. Adam and Bruce must have hit their stride as co-hosts/friends way after this, because there were a couple big time personality clashes in this one. All-in-all worth a listen.
Show Recap:
They go into detail about Bruce doing tattoo removal on ex-gangbangers, how all of that works, and who’s paying for it. This leads to an analogy about how it’s more efficient to exterminate roaches or vermin creatures. Typical Adam rant.
Then a memorable call with a girl from Ethiopia who experienced genital mutilation when she was a child. Leads to a xenophobic but honest rant by Adam that’s met with stiff reaction by everyone in the room, especially Bruce and even the caller.
Then Adam does his classic GAT test (gay aptitude test), to which Bruce reacted severely and by this point had an ass-full of Adam. Adam responded by telling Bruce to just go out and wait in the hall or something. He meant it too, haha. I could tell they really got under each others skin in this episode. And again, the girls complemented Adam’s constant musings well.
The name of the song l7 does is called Drama. The girls are doing the best they can do, they aren’t pretentious they are just themselves.
The songs are set up ok but they have great chords. The solo seemed to not fit the song but its still pretty interesting. These are some hard rocking chicks not girly girls lol
How do you get rid of roaches?!?
This is a pretty kick-ass show. L7 is funny. Then I died at around the 1:19 mark because a caller was complaining about everyone in high school thinking he was gay. Adam grills him about his wardrobe and Mike pods up “YMCA” and I died. I’m now dead.
The L7 ladies are awesome guests! They get involved in each and every call. Many fans call in to speak to the band members. Adam mentions that Dr. Bruce is a born-again (not sure if that’s true or not). But Dr. Bruce does in fact sound quite a bit more uptight than he does in future episodes and in current-day Loveline shows. Maybe this is how he got the nickname Dr. Spaz. During one call, Adam adamantly argues with the caller (who had suffered genital mutilation in Ethiopia). He kept saying that the Ethiopian culture is a horrible culture. Dr. Bruce seemed quite offended by his comments.
Adam: “Dr. Bruce is here, he is imagining a life without a clitoris himself…”
Bruce: “Imagining a life without Loveline.”
Poor Bruce 😀
Adam makes a call out to “Amazon.com”. I thought that was wild.
