This is a “new” show in that I figured out the date for it, which took it out of the “Other Shows” purgatory level. It’s a good episode.
At 0:52:42 there’s a heavy call from a girl who says her stepfather raped her and transmitted HIV. As the call goes on, some of the details don’t quite fit and Adam & Drew get a weird bogus vibe.
I was of course reminded of the infamous bogus HIV call on the 1998-08-25 show. I’m good with voices and based on a quick check I don’t think they’re the same person, but I’ll listen longer to make sure.

Caitlyn calls and she is an idiot.
She’s pregnant with her second child and says it’s hard because her 20-year-old boyfriend is incarcerated.
Adam: “Did he put his penis through the bars or….how’s that work?”
Idiot: “hehe, um….well….it’s just.”
Adam: “Do you get conjugal visits?”
Idiot: “A couple I guess, I don’t really know what we’re doing” (she clearly doesn’t know what conjugal visits are.)
Adam: “How long has he been incarcerated?”
Idiot: “About a year.”
Adam: “And how long ago did he get your pregnant?”
Idiot: “About three months ago.”
Adam: “And how did he do that considering he’s incarcerated?”
Idiot: “Um…it just kind of…one night just happened, I don’t know. It was stupid.”
Adam: “Let me get to what I’m asking because I think you’re missing it. Let’s say there’s Charles Manson and he’s in prison. Let’s say Ann says Charles got her pregnant and then I would ask ‘well how did Charles Manson get your pregnant if he’s in jail?'”
Idiot: “Well, that’s the thing. There’s a possibility that it’s someone else’s.”
Adam: “Okay I’m still going back to the Charles Manson analogy.”
Drew: “How does someone who is in jail have sex with an underage person? How does that happen? Did he break out of jail for a while?”
Idiot: “……..no…”
Adam: “Alright. Our listeners have a form of mental retardation that has not been seen by medical science. I really mean that Drew. I think we’ve created our own strain of retardation. I wish I had a panel of experts here who could explain to me how I can ask this question.”
The guys try some more but she never gives a straight answer then just stops talking for like a full minute while they let dead air hang until engineer Mike plays the Jeopardy theme. She then hangs up.
She says, at one point, it may be another guy but it only happened once. They overlooked it as the obvious answer, that it was from another guy, because they were so fixated on how a minor has sex with someone in jail. You can kinda tell she realizes it and is too freaked out to admit it. I could hear drew saying “IT ONLY TAKES ONCE!” But it never happened.
Drew questions Adam near the end of the show about how he has a piece of paper in front of him with sequential numbers written on them. Tonight Adam has gotten to 19. I remember Drew bringing this little habit of Adam’s up in later shows too. Does anyone know what that’s all about? Is it just an OCD type thing or is he keeping a tally on everytime Drew steps on one of his jokes?
@Landlubber It would seem to me that since Drew said Adam was “practicing” his numbers, it is a simpler answer than the OCD or some other idiosyncrasy, I think he is still more or less illiterate at the time of this recording and is literally practicing writing out numbers. I could be wrong but that is the feeling I get from the way Drew was reacting. And if it was a tally of Drew stepping on jokes it would be 3 digits at least haha.
lol, good theory but I don’t think Adam is quite that retarded. He’s bad with the written word, sure, but he’s always demonstrated a firm grasp on numbers. He was a carpenter and always dealt with math and measurements, so I’m not sure he needs to take the two hour show to practice writing 1-19.
I thought about the carpenter bit too which didn’t quite jive with my theory but I went ahead and threw it out there anyway. At the end of the day I guess it will just remain a mystery. I still can’t believe he made it through highschool without reading though, the LA schools must be unbelievably horrible.
Okay, I’m listening to the 5/21/2001 show right now and they bring up the numbers thing again. To my knowledge it’s the first time they’ve brought it up since this episode.
Drew tells Adam that he always complains about the little things Drew does during the show that drive him nuts, but he does them too. Drew says Adam drives him nuts by sitting there all night writing numbers. He’s up to 40 in that particular episode. Adam kind of brushes it off with a joke and then deflects the conversation back to Drew.
He says he equates this job to being in prison. Guys in prison will often times spend their days putting scratches in the walls to mark the passing of time. He then turns it back on Drew and complains about his little quirks.
Maybe he’s just bored, but it sounded like he wanted to quickly get off that topic like it bothered him, so it could be a weird OCD thing that he’s embarrassed about.

I’m with Dr. Drew. Meghan was bogus. I also thought she sounded too together for having been diagnosed with HIV. She also offered up the symptoms too easily – fatigue and weight loss. Doesn’t that mean that she already has AIDS? And she sounded too concerned about her mother for an 18-year-old who is HIV positive.
The prison sex call is hilarious!!!
