Show Summary:
Circumcision Night.
Adam discusses how he kind of “grew out of” being uncircumcised.
Bobcat Goldthwait was scheduled to appear today, but canceled. He rescheduled for the next Monday (6/8/98).
Decent episode… Lotta circumcision talk and we find out how Adams uncircumcised penis looks circumcised… Odd lol..
It’s also my dads 28th bday during this episode… Idk why I told you
At the 1 hour mark, there’s a great example of the classic self-righteous crazy chick who wants to challenge Adam and Drew and celebrate herself.
She asks why they immediately take out their wallets to gamble on people who call when they say they have tattoos and piercings. Adam immediately suggests they gamble on her. She says “no, besides being a “Port-a-Gee” I’m totally normal.”
This starts the retarded Loveline caller portion of her call. The guys say “a what?” She repeats “a Port-a-Gee.” They don’t know what that is so Drew says “you wanna translate that Adam?” The girl goes “huh?” Instead of just explaining what the hell that means, the idiot just repeats “PORT-A-GEE, PORT-A-GEE!” in a louder voice like a child as they cut her off to try to figure out what she means. Adam’s guess is it’s a portable gi, the traditional garb of a karate practitioner. When they take her off hold Adam says “is that what that means Monica?” Instead of FINALLY explaining what the hell it means she just says “no, that’s not what that means, but anyways…” and tries to go on with the call. The guys ask one more time what a Port-a-Gee is and at last it sinks in that they don’t know what the sam-fuck she’s talking about and tells them she’s Portuguese.
Drew explains why tattoos and piercings have traditionally been seen as anti-social behaviors in many cases, but not all. Clearly wanting to talk about herself, Monica cuts him off to say she didn’t get hers to be fashionable and how meaningful they are because it’s a fish (she’s a Pisces) and an Aztec sun (apparently very meaningful). She got the tattoo with her dad. His tattoo is Mickey Mouse flipping the bird.
When the finally get to her question, surprise surprise, it’s about how she’s too good looking and has too good a personality to find a guy that’s right for her. It’s not until she starts rambling on about her aspirations to be a political science major with a minor in business that the guys realize their presence in this call is unneeded and they mercifully cut her line off to let her ramble to herself in the mirror.
Landlubber below completely exaggerates/misrepresents the caller he’s referring to. First of all, the caller Monica doesn’t just keep shouting Port-a-gee louder and louder like a child. After Adam goes on the karate garb riff and they go back to her, she answers them the very first time they ask her directly what a Port-a-gee is. She’s not evasive at all. She then goes on to patiently answer a long series of questions by Adam about dairy farming. Also, she never says she’s too good-looking or has too good of a personality; she just mentions being attractive and her personality in relation to being frustrated about not being able to find a guy. They also don’t hang up on her with her rambling on; the call just ends normally after they give her advice about getting on with her education.
Anyway, I made this comment because I fired up this episode and skipped straight to this call because of the description below. I was excited to hear another batshit crazy chick and she turns out to be entirely normal and well-adjusted. Very disappointing. Not sure where Landlubber got his impression, maybe he was drunk and tried to recall it later or something.
Bill1through4, she does in fact just repeat “Portagee! Portagee!” when they’re wondering what she means, and they even cut her off right in the middle of saying it to put her on hold. When I said “like a child” I don’t mean that she’s throwing a tantrum, I’m talking about how she doesn’t have the ability to pick up on social cues–in this case, that Adam and Drew don’t know what a Portagee is–and instead just repeats the word louder as if that’s going to clear it up. Much like a child would.
You then say that right after the karate garb riff they go back to her and she immediately answers the question without being evasive. What actually happens is they go back to her and say “is that what it means Monica?” to which she replies “no that’s not what it means…so anyways” and is about to go on with her call without answering what a Portagee is. That’s the very definition of evasive. Drew and Adam talk about callers like this all the time–ones who will intentionally avoid giving you the satisfaction of answering the actual question you’re asking. It especially happens with defensive, confrontational female callers. You’ll remember that Monica called and immediately had a chip on her shoulder before they even knew what she wanted. She called to challenge them on the gambling thing and talk about how it’s fallacious of them to cast tattooed people all into the same lot because SHE has tattoos and is completely well-adjusted. The fallacy is actually on her part. She’s taking one example–her–and applying IT to the norm. Drew and Adam deal in percentages. Most of the callers they deal with who have extensive tattoos and piercings are not well-adjusted. That’s why I called her self-important. She can’t see beyond herself as an example. Also something children do. And if you re-read what I wrote you’ll see that I acknowledge that she finally answers the question. I never said it went unresolved so perhaps it’s you who’s misinterpreting and exaggerating my position.
She talks about how she’s good looking and has a good personality right before she says “maybe it’s the town I live in that I can’t find somebody” and “maybe I have too high standards.” These are statements that indicate that she thinks she’s better than the people she’s meeting. Otherwise, what does “I’m really good looking and have a good personality” have to do with anything? If SHE were the one being rejected then you could make the argument that she is only saying it to relate it to her frustration about finding someone. But since SHE’S the one rejecting the guys, “I’m really good looking” has a negative, conceited connotation in that context.
At the end she is in the middle of a sentence about what her plans are with political science and a business degree and they cut her off right in the middle of her sentence, give her two sentences of “uh..move on with your education” without ever putting her back on the line. As for that being a normal way a call ends on this show, you’re right, since the guys constantly have to do this to people who are long-winded and giving a bunch of irrelevant information about themselves. Which is exactly how I described it.
Anyway, don’t know where Bill1through4 got his impression. Maybe he’s on heroin.
Drew slips in an asshole at 1:20:45.

Caller: how old were you when you got it cut off?
Adam: I never did
Caller: oh, you’re UNcircumcised?
Adam: well… it’s a complicated story…
Drew: you WORE it off 😂
