    Cold start, short show.

Funny talk about the stupidity of youth and lack of insight into the future.

Woman calls who had a three way with her husband and his cousin’s wife. Drew and Adam draw up tactical plans to nuke the neighborhood and house the children with the Cosby cast.

Catherine Bach was supposed to be the guest but no showed.

Adam talks about how Drew told the Weez that he gained weight, and how rude Drew is to people without knowing it.

Male caller can’t get sex from an older girl because he is young and a virgin. Standard female response of “you’re one of the best people I know” gets dropped. Adam explains this is instant trouble for a guy. “Women are tactful and kind”.

Female caller wants to have a baby at 24. Drew instantly jumps on her voice. Interrogation starts about why she would want to have a baby by herself. They tease out that she had an abusive step father and tell her to talk to her therapist about this. They assume she is trying to resolve her childhood with a new baby. “Compensation, even in a good direction, is bad for the child”

In these “earlier” episodes, Dr. Drew always pronounces the word maturity “ma-too-rity.” Whenever people pronounce it that way it always grates on my ears. It’s like you have to try to say it that way.

Now I don’t know if he changes the way he says it later on but I’ve listened to a million Loveline episodes in the later Adam/Drew days (2000’s) and I never noticed him saying it that way before. If he does change the way he says it that just proves that people who say pronounce it “ma-too-rity” are trying to do it on purpose because it sounds cultured or something. Kind of like the way some people pronounce “croissant” the actual French way it’s supposed to be pronounced like “cwasont.”

    Douche bags.

Pastahero…..no. No I don’t say “croy-sant.” I’d have to imagine you’ve never heard anyone say what I’m talking about, otherwise you would know exactly what I mean. I pronounce it “cra-sant” like every other non-French human on the planet Earth.

I totally acknowledge that it’s not the “correct” way to pronounce it, but saying “cwasont” to sound authentic is pretentious and stupid. My point is that if you have to go out of your way to pronounce something a certain way, there’s a reason behind it. It’s a compensation for something. You mean to tell me that if you were in the passenger seat of your friend’s car in the Burger King drive-thru and he ordered a bacon, egg, and cheese “cwwwasssont” you wouldn’t immediately label him a weirdo?

Yeah, and it’s not a big deal. Every time he says it, it just kind of hangs in the air because it sounds forced. Like when an American reporter tries to be too cultured so he’s talking with his normal accent but then comes to a Spanish word and all of a sudden he hits the accent really hard on that one word and then goes right back into his normal one. It’s “correct” but it’s jarring to the ear.
So if we’re talking about “correct” versus “incorrect” pronunciation (you wouldn’t have thrown in that the Brits created the language if we weren’t) then Drew should also be using a Spanish accent every time he talks about the cities in Los Angeles.
It’s not an international incident. I just don’t like the way he says a word.

I’m adding this show now, it’s an 85+min copy, the first time it’s been heard in almost 15yrs.

One of the last tapes I fear I will ever transfer, not sure if anything is missing, could be an edited out song or lost call or 2, opening and closing are intact, it’s for sure this episode, the date seems to line up too.

Took a ton of work to fix the pitch, the background noise and everything else.

It’s episode 795 of the Adam Carolla Era.
