Riki is annoying… Make way for Adam!
Too much Riki but the Indian comment is classic.
Adam has referenced this show for the past 15 years… giving No Doubt the “curse” which ultimately, rose them to fame.
I saw Giovanni at Adam’s show in Kirkland and he tells me that the infamous show has finally been found…..and now FILE NOT FOUND when I hit play!!!!! WTF! Somebody help please!!
Which show are you talking about? This show plays fine for me…
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 1995
As far as I know, this is the first recorded show with Adam. Unless someone knows of another?
Your parents grew up in a different time zone
I’m actually kinda surprised at how well Riki and Adam work together. Maybe it’s just because Dr. Bruce has already had his spirit crushed at this point and doesn’t really get in the way at all.
The show begins with Riki explaining that this is the After-Thanksgiving-Day-Before-The-Holiday edition of Loveline, and Drew is still on vacation. Dr. Bruce is filling in, and Adam immediately makes fun of him. Riki wants questions about anything, not just sex and health stuff.
Matthew (16) wants to know if his semen is clear because he and his friends leave the seeds in their marijuana when they smoke it. Adam advises that the seeds can pop and hit him in the eye so Matthew should be careful. Bruce tells Matthew that it will shrink his testicles and give him breasts, but Matthew doesn’t care.
Caller Jackie wants to know if drinking pee can make someone sick. This question is the result of a revenge story about her exboyfriend. Bruce seems disturbed by all this, but Adam stipulates that it’s part of some religions.
Caller Sonja wants to know if bleeding after sex is normal. Bruce says to get to the doctor immediately, but it’s moot because Sonja is a virgin. Adam talks about the Italian tradition of hanging the bloody sheet out the window after a wedding night. They all insist that Sonja stay a virgin for a long time, and Riki says she will be called “Bone-ya” if she loses it too early.
No Doubt arrives, prompting the retrieval of another chair and some headphones. Apparently the band has not heard the show before, and Riki jokes that part of Gwen’s rider is that they can’t do anal questions. He then asks about her influence on female fans. Gwen also insists Sonja stay a virgin for a while.
Kacey is the first ever caller from Las Vegas, and Riki and Adam are surprised that Loveline is on there. Her parents are racists and want her to break up with her black boyfriend.
Infamously, Gwen relates that she went through a similar situation, dating someone of Indian descent. She advises Kacey not to ruin her relationship with her parents, but that she will eventually realize that they “grew up in a different time zone” and should date him anyway. Adam jumps in to ask “American Indian or 7-11 Indian?” which prompts groans all around, specifically one from Riki that drips of embarrassment. Tony comments that it’s a good thing he has such a good sense of humor, though it doesn’t seem very truthful. Adam explains that he’s from the valley, which is devoid of culture, then offers himself up as a guinea, WOP, or dago if Tony wants to come after him.
Riki delves into Gwen’s involvement in lyrics for the new album. This is where it is revealed that Tony is the Indian ex, and Riki wants to know about being in a band with an ex. Gwen’s brother, who left the band, is a cartoonist who’s worked on the Simpsons and Ren & Stimpy. Riki gets back to the breakup in the band, and wants to know what it does to the band dynamic.
After the break, Riki plugs the band and their new record.
Caller Matt wants to know when the band started playing (the ’80s) and whether they can read sheet music (no). Matt gets in a jab about not being able to read music after a short discussion about the best Muppets.
After Riki and Gwen introduce it and Adam laments his societal inability to wear a skirt, they play “Just a Girl.” Afterward, Riki talks to the band more, asking how much they hate questions about being ska or being from the Orange County scene.
Caller Diana is confused because she didn’t say her boyfriend’s name while masturbating the other day, but rather some other guy’s name. Adam claims to have once yelled Connie Chung’s name while beating off. The band doesn’t have a problem since it was just a fantasy, and tells her not to worry about it. Adrian reveals that he has never had an orgasm during masturbation and Adam is apalled.
After the break, Riki requests a stupid trivia question from a caller before plugging the band again.
David (18) wants to know if smoking pot from a metal pipe increases the liklihood of Alzheimer’s. Bruce says that there is a theory about aluminum having something to do with it, mentioning some weird things people use to smoke. Adam is surprised to hear lightbulbs in that category.
Caller Christina wants to find the Beacon (Bacon?) Street Collection, a rare No Doubt record that they had released themselves due to record label frustrations. Adam offers to have the band deliver a copy before their show.
Caller Anne Marie wants to know if the band is going to do their yearly free show. They tell her that they want to but touring has been hectic, and so to keep her eyes open for it next year.
Riki wants to know if touring keeps the band from getting to do everything they want to, such as the free shows. They play one more song, “Spiderweb,” before the band has to leave for their show at the Troubadour and the show goes to break.
FYI… The indian comment is about 14 minutes in.
YAY!!! This show has become infamous with Adam’s “7-11 indian” comment that resulted in No Doubt first and last appearence on Loveline…. been looking for it for a while 🙂
**correction** last time Gwen does loveline while adam is hosting
After hearing about the No Doubt Indian comment for a million years it’s a pleasure to actually hear it.
But then again, Gwen comes off as kind of insensitive to Tony when she gives the advice “don’t ruin your relationship with your parents over just SOME GUY.” The “some guy” in this instance is him. He’s sitting right there.
It’s also funny because Riki doesn’t even pick up on the fact that Tony is the Indian that Gwen is talking about dating when Adam makes his 7-11 comment. Later, Gwen talks about the record being about her bad breakup with her ex and how it’s hard since he’s IN THE BAND. He’s like, huh? Who is it?
Wasn’t he sitting right there four minutes ago when they went over this?
The interesting part is that Drew wasn’t actually here, but he heard the No Doubt story so many times over the year that he assumed he had been.
the show itself is mediocre at best, too much riki. however it is a must listen if you are a fan of loveline and adam
Connie Chung!!!
Audio is a half step down. Should be a half step up and a little quicker.
