I know I posted before, but this is a different thought…
I live in Tucson, AZ, and have for pretty much all my life. From ’95 until maybe last year, our dominant “alternative” station was 92.1 KFMA. They were the station that carried Loveline for this market. You can see that many recordings list KFMA as the recording source.
KFMA got the show as it happened, not a day later like some markets (never understood the day-delay thing). But, KFMA VERY rarely ran a commercial during Loveline, and they didn’t replay the crappy PSA’s. They would fill the commercial time by playing a great song. I’ll admit this doesn’t sound like a profitable business model, but from a listener’s point of view it was wonderful.
I know this may sound like I’m giving far too much credit to a radio show, but Loveline provided laughter and a much needed bright spot to end my days during a very difficult and challenging time in my life. When you’re in the situation I was in, any source for distraction, and especially laughter, is needed and welcome.
