Piven is very full of himself yet quite charming. Adam is quite jealous of Jeremy Piven’s ability to get acting roles.

Very good episode! Adam makes a few great jokes in this one.

I love Jeremy on Entourage but he has a reputation as an A-hole. Hell, I’ve heard Adam say on his podcast that Jeremy is an A-hole so I was interested to hear this show. Jeremy can at least play a nice and interesting guy on the radio, he does well. 5/5
At one point, Piven starts to pull a Jon Favreau with a caller that was objecting to taking psyche meds. For whatever reason, Drew lets it slide. I guess he was worried it would turn into the memorable experience that the Favreau incident has.
That came to mind as I was listening; he didn’t call out Piven but cut it off at the pass, explaining why they need the medication. In that sense you could say he let it slide but he definitely didn’t stay silent on the issue.
16-year-old Allison calls in who thinks she was sexually abused as a child. She can’t remember the exact incidents but she’s pretty sure. She saw a Whoopi Goldber movie where she was a showgirl (Sister Act I guess) and said she wanted to be a showgirl. Her father told her that she should get naked and get in bed with him because that’s what real showgirls do (ed: WTF?).
Drew: “Do you do drugs or alcohol?”
Caller: “Not anymore.”
Drew: “Do you have a history of substance abuse?”
Caller: “Um…just a little bit when I was in high school.”
Drew: “What about a 12-step program? The idea here is that you need someone stable who knows how to draw you into a stable relationship. That’s what 12-step really is.”
Adam: “Hold on, Jeremy wants me to plug the DVD, Serendipity everybody, there’s a free Cinnabon offer inside. You can apparently get a free Cinnabon.
Drew: “Nice.”
*It’s completely obvious what Adam was doing there by interjecting with that ridiculous scenario, he was trying to add a little levity to what is a serious call, but Jeremy Piven is a super-douche who takes this opportunity to put himself above it all and sound like a saint*
Super-Douche: “Allison, I want to apologize for that. I want to tell you Allison that I didn’t have anything to do with that just now and I am listening intently to what you’re saying. And the good doctor was at the 12-step program just now.”
Wowzers. To a casual participant in the human race, this may seem like a noble interjection on Jeremy’s part. What it actually is, is a completely self-important narcissist trying to sound like a savior. “The good doctor.” He said that with no irony whatsoever. He started to apologize to her for Adam’s “off color” and ill-timed remark, and got goosebumps for how noble he was being. He was so proud of himself that he overstepped it by juuust that much, revealing that he was just stroking his own ego as opposed to actually caring about the caller. You can almost hear him realize he’s gone a step too far into self-aggrandizing douchebaggery when he actually refers to Drew as “the good doctor.”

Jeremy seems to be very polarizing in terms of listeners reactions. But I think Jeremy is playing himself as a character. He does have a healthy sense of self confidence but he does have a really good sense of humor, more dry, though, than the show is used to.
Adam: We’re going to take a break…
Jeremy: But I’m not done talking.
I agree that he’s kind of douche at times but he combines it with great humor and wit
Five-star show from me. Jeremy is one of the best guests in recent memory.
The psychology at play in this episode is fascinating. Adam is clearly threatened by Jeremy, but trying to play it cool. This is compounded by the fact that Drew LOVES Jeremy, so there’s a bit of a jealously triangle going on.
At the beginning of the next night’s show Adam yells at Drew for suggesting that Ann get a picture of them two with Jeremy, even though the camera is usually reserved for “big-name” guests. Just a hilarious commentary on the personality differences between Adam and Drew.
I was expecting Piven to be a prick but I thought he was great guest and really put the effort into the show.
