Reason # 436 why this show is great:

They hate all the promotions they run. In this case, they’re giving away a free iPod shuffle and twenty free songs from iTunes to the first caller to call in when they hear a certain song.

First, Adam starts reading the copy for the promotion and seems completely surprised at what they’re giving away even though Drew has been reading this promotion for a few nights already. He says he guesses he just tunes Drew out. Then, Adam begins to rip the promotion for being pretentious by using the term “bumper music” instead of just saying “the music that plays when we come back from commercial.” Lastly, Adam says the song of the night is Vertigo by U2. Adam then says “does it have to be U2? I hate U2. Do we really have to hear crappy U2?”

lol. I picture the people at Apple who came up with this promotion listening and just face palming as Adam completely craps on the entire thing.

Adam talks about his love for news magazine shows like 20/20. He loves when they do these exposes on cruise ships and hotels where they use a blacklight and find a pentagram made of semen on the mattress.

He says it’s stupid because you will find gross shit everywhere if you scrutinize it closely enough. We love to drive ourselves nuts as humans. “Do you know what’s in those hot dogs?! We found out! Do you know what’s on that comforter at the hotel?! We found out! Look, if you take an electron microscope to your mattress, you’re gonna find stuff that Dr. Seuss couldn’t even think of. And by the way, you wanna know where there’s semen? In your nutsack! It’s in you! Somehow everyone’s urine is poison but my own is liquid gold?”

Wow. The “Ohhh boy. This is wonderful” drop that Anderson uses sarcastically to mock someone telling a boring story is some local California television personality named Huell Howser. For YEARS I though it was David Allen Grier.

Mind blown. Though I’m still gonna picture DAG every time they play it.

Near the beginning of the show Drew has Adam read a report on air that he found which states that after a natural disaster, only 20% of international aid actually makes it to the people who need it. He brings this up to support his rationale behind not donating anything to the tsunami relief fund. Adam laughs because Drew retardedly brought up the fact that most of the money doesn’t actually go where it’s supposed to with the listener who just donated $15,000 to tsunami relief RIGHT NEXT TO HIM in studio a couple nights ago.

Adam: “There’s part of me that appreciates your candor, and a part of me that wants to vomit all over your alligator shoes.”

And because literally everyone has mentioned it so far and I don’t want to be a combo breaker…um…there seems to be some discussion about hats in this episode.

A girl calls in who says she’s getting worse grades in school after quitting marijuana than when she was a heavy smoker. The call is unremarkable but the girl does this thing I hate where she pauses after certain statements because she wants a reaction. She says “I used to smoke a lot of pot and i just recently quit……” The long pause she puts in between that statement and the next sentence is where she imagines people will heap praise on her for quitting. She gets only silence so she moves on to the next one. She says “Yeah, I quit because I’m pre-med……..so….” Again she only gets silence. Lol. People are so up their own asses. You can always spot this shit because the self-congratulatory sentence will not only be a total non sequitur, but it will also lead absolutely nowhere. This is because the person has already planned saying “I quit because I’m pre-med” and it doesn’t matter how the conversation is going, they will crowbar that shit in there no matter how poor the fit.

A caller asks about Crank Yankers and Adam announces that it’s over. Comedy Central doesn’t make a lot of money on the show because it’s expensive to produce and only does decent ratings and therefore it’s time to move on. He says he’s satisfied and that they had a good run. It would’ve been disappointing to do like 12 or 13 episodes and have them pull the plug, but once you do 75-100, it’s probably time to bow out. He then wonders how many they did. According to Wikipedia, they did 40 episodes.
