Excellent ep. John & Kal are hilarious, as are their movies. Funny to hear them talk about the Harold & Kumar movie with optimistic caution when it indeed has gone on to spawn 2 sequels. They’re lively and engaging guests and play of Adam and Drew well. Great multi-guest episode.
I really enjoy this episode. Even though I was eating a chicken sandwich during “Germany or Florida”. Five stars.
Funny to hear them talk about The Lonely Island now that Andy, Jorma, and Akiva are super successful.
this episode is a classic. nr.1 for me.
Kal and John open the show by talking about Ebert and Roeper giving them two thumbs way up for Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle. If you haven’t seen it you may think this is ridiculous, especially if you’ve seen any of the sequels, but that movie was actually a solid comedy with some heart to it. Really a lot better than what it was billed to be, which is just an idiot stoner comedy. And when Anthony Anderson started going ballistic and screaming about burning the Burger Shack down, I nearly pissed my self. I may or may not have been partaking in the substance that takes center stage in that movie at the time, granted, but it still holds up upon repeat sober viewings.
Adam begins by apologizing for remarks he made the night before about Rosa Parks that drew some ire. He parlays that apology into asking John and Kal about their respective ethnicities and proceeds to offend Koreans and Indians (of both the dot and feather variety). Classic Adam.
The guys play Germany or Florida and it’s about a guy who huffs a bunch of butane, gets veraciously hungry and has no food in the house, so he cuts off the toes on his left foot and fries them up to make a toe sandwich. Adam, Drew, and John all guess Germany for various reasons but Kal picks Florida. It’s (spoiler alert!) Germany. The guys all agree that the giveaway was the butane, but to me it’s that the article refers to the paramedic as an “ambulance man.” Now I don’t know if they call paramedics ambulance men in Germany, but they sure as hell don’t here in Florida.
I had no idea that Kal was friends with the Lonely Island guys in college. Apparently he was in one of their videos when they were still far from being famous and a girl calls in to ask if it was really Kal from the Lonely Island website. lol.
When I originally pulled up this episode on my phone, there was a pic of Kal wearing a shirt that said “I Love Bush (w/ the American flag behind this text), the pussy not the president”… It’s, unfortunately, since been replaced w/ a totally different pic… Why does everything have to be so PC?!?!…

Great ep, but Drew is borderline racist referring to Kal Penn as “Kumar” repeatedly. Not intentional I’m sure, which is almost worse somehow.

Why is it “borderline racist” to call someone by their character’s name? Especially when it’s by far their most popular role to date and the film they are in to promote? Why would race in general or animosity towards another race specifically have anything whatsoever to do with that situation? Adam literally just did the exact same thing on the Adam and Drew Show podcast with Modern Family’s many white characters/actors, some of whom he is personally friends with. Stop looking for excuses to accuse people of racism.

Amazing show. The best of all worlds, great guest, great banter, little to no rants, decent calls, great Germany or Florida. Primo show. Good times
